Joe W. “Happy Jack” Jones, Jr.

United States Army Veteran, Mr. Joe W. “Happy Jack” Jones of Joe Wright Drive, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, August 13, 2018 at his residence.

 

Mr. Jones was the son of the late Mr. Joe W. Jones, Sr. and the late Mrs. Rosie Lee Walker Jones.  He was reared by his father and a loving stepmother, the late Mrs. Callie Jones. “Happy Jack”, as he was affectionately known, was welcomed into this world on February 18, 1942 in Byromville, Georgia.  He spent his formative years and was educated in Dooly County, Georgia. After attending high school, he joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.

 

Joe worked for years as a brick mason and construction/wood worker.  His workmanship can be seen across the state of Georgia. In addition to earning a living as a skilled brick mason, Joe had many hobbies including restoring old cars, fishing, and gardening.  Joe would spend hours nurturing his tomatoes, greens, and green peppers. He thoroughly enjoyed harvesting, cooking and serving his fresh vegetables and would often brag about his bounty.

 

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by brothers, Willie C. Jones; J. D. Hinton; James Redding and Willie Redding; sisters, Ozzie Mae Jones, Soffie Mae Porter, Bertha Mae Gaines; Bernice Mann Green.  He leaves to cherish his memory his children Mr. Joe W. Jones III of Merrillville, Indiana; Dr. Bernetta Jones of Lithonia, Georgia; Dr. Edward L. Jones(Mae) of Seattle, Washington; Zachary Taylor of Vienna, Georgia; his grandchildren, JoMarie Jones, Jaleel Jones, Patrick Jones, and Jordan Jones of Merrillville, Indiana; LaToya, Dornisha, and Brandon Jones of Seattle, Washington; Taylor Jordan of Lithonia, Georgia; his Brother, Eli Jones (Elaine) of Louisa, Virginia; Sisters, Carrie Belle Johnson, Jessie Mae Jones (Lester), Mattie Jones (Morris), Bobbie Jean Mason (Johnny), and Betty Jean Lockett (Tim) of Cordele, Georgia; a special aunt, Fannie Mae James, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
