Obituary

It is with great sadness that Bentley Carson Memorial Funeral Home announces the passing of Latasha Lavant Towns.

Mrs. Latasha Nichelle Lavant Towns, lovingly known as “Cookie,” was born on September 2,1979, in Crisp County, Georgia, to Mr. Lonnie James Morgan and Mrs. Dorothy Lawrence. Latasha was educated in the public schools of Crisp County and was a proud graduate of Crisp County High School. Early in adulthood, she relocated to South Carolina, where she resided for 26 years. There, she built a remarkable 22-year career as a dedicated manager and cook. Known for her strong work ethic and commitment, she took great pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.

Affectionately called “Cookie” because of her bright, warm smile, Latasha was a devoted wife, a loving and protective mother, a caring sister, and a faithful friend. Her life was a reflection of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in compassion, strength, and generosity.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following a period of illness, Latasha peacefully transitioned at Lexington Medical Center in South Carolina.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband, Tremayne Towns; her adored children, Diamond Brown and N’evin Jones; her stepchildren, Trenecia Towns, Jamario Towns, Che’ Towns, Messiah James and Machai James; and her treasured step-granddaughter, Nolah Towns. She is also survived by her parents, Lonnie James Morgan and Dorothy Lawrence; her stepfather, J.R. Lavant; her loving sisters, Teresa Lavant and Latonya Lavant; her brother, Nicholas (Shatoraca) Morgan; and her beloved grandparent, Elnora Ray.

She leaves a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly: Ashanti Hamin, Saqqara Lavant, Jamal Hall, Nicholas Morgan Jr., Jeremiah Morgan, Anthony Ivery Jr., and Ayden Morgan.

Latasha also leaves to mourn a circle of devoted aunts and uncles: Johnny (Barbara) Dennis, Gloria Ray, Linda (Wilbert) Purcell, Lucille Morgan, Ella Liptroth, Asilene (Malcolm) Kellogg, Phyllis (Roosevelt) Williams, Alice (Amos) Floyd, and James (Della) Warren.

She will be deeply missed by her special friends, Monyetta King, Corey Boykin, Shirley Belton, Theresa Mack, and Chiquita Roberson, along with countless extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Though her time here was far too brief, the love Latasha gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
