Alton Roberson Hemby Sr.
Alton Roberson Hemby Sr. Alton was born and raised in Edward, North Carolina, to Alberta HembyLarkins and Arthur Larkins. He graduated from S.W. Snowden High in Aurora, North Carolina, in 1959. The same year, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with assignments in Okinawa, Japan, and Hawaii, USA. He received an honorable discharge in 1963. After serving his country, he returned to live in Brooklyn, New York, and attended The New York School of Electronics. He was a successful entrepreneur, owning his own Beverage Distribution Route in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, helping many people in the community until his disability in 1988. Above all, he was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, cousin and friend to all. Al never gave a bad report about anyone. He was preceded in life by his parents, a special aunt, Blonnie Hemby, and brothers, Odell Hemby and James Hemby. Alton is survived by: his spouse, Carolyn Morgan Hemby of Cordele, Georgia, whom he married on October 17, 1967; son, Alton R. Hemby, Jr.; grandchildren, Shakira, Jasmine, Timothy, Porchina, Micah, Matthew, Madelete, and Malachi; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hemby Moore of North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins and innumerable friends and lifelong friends, Jimmy and Brenda, Bea and Jessie, Robert and Joyce, and Beamon Moore.
