Welcome to the memorial page for

Edith S. Brown

November 12, 1939 ~ July 31, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

On November 12, 1939, Mrs. Edith Shivers Brown was welcomed to this world. She was born in Crisp County, Georgia to her loving mother, Mrs. Louise Shivers. Born and raised outside of Cordele, Georgia, she married the love of her life, David L. Brown, at the age of 16 through a wishbone bet. Her journey began as they both moved to Cordele, Georgia to settle down and raise their family.

Throughout her life’s journey, Edith, better known as Mama, was a devoted wife, mother of nine kids, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother of many, sister, aunt, and friend. She would always welcome her family to come together every Sunday to a down-home cooked meal. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren, shopping in her catalogs, cooking, and riding around.

As her journey went on, she and her husband founded their own church and named it Brown’s Chapel, where she soon became the 1st Lady and Mother of the Church. She was a faithful committed member of her family’s church and a faithful servant. While there, she taught all the youth how to be a proper usher.

On Monday, July 31, 2017, our loving and caring matriarch transitioned peacefully from this life to life eternal. Mama was preceded in death by her husband, Godfather David L. Brown; one son, David L. Brown, Jr.; two daughters, Sabrina Brown and Eva Bell Brown; one sister, Christine Brown-Ray; and one brother, Jack Ray. Her celebration of life and cherished memories will be remembered and forever live on in the hearts of her loving and devoted children, Louise Brown-Hicks, Rita Faye (Andrew) Pickens, Denise Brown, Timothy Brown, all of Cordele, Georgia, Rickey Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, and Linda (Arthur) Collier of Houston, Texas; her adopted son, Kel’Waske Brown; her brothers and sisters, Willie B. (Nellie) Shivers, Daisy Battle, Maggie Harmon, and Willie C. (Ruby) Coleman; a special cousin, Carrie Levant; 23 grands, Tremecius, Nate’, Fanta, Adriann (Mark), Takayla, Colsha (Roland), Kentavian, Brita, Allen, Sytavious, Adezjhia, Shamari, Sabrekkia, Keisha, Jeremy, Rickey Jr., Juwan, Jaden, Shaylynn, Ashley, Shemeka, Starla, and Anneshia; 28 great-grands, and five great-great-grands, along with
other countless family and friends who were blessed to know her.
